Since 1976, Peruvian Connection has made ethnographic textiles the point of reference for its artisan-made, luxury fiber collections. In addition to the label’s signature knitwear, it offers a range of romantic dresses, superbly tailored outerwear and unique handcrafted accessories, all exclusively designed by and for Peruvian Connection.

WHO WE ARE

 

INTERNATIONAL OFFICES

USA: Located in Tonganoxie, Kansas, our worldwide headquarters are still located on the family farm, with the corporate offices housed in a remodeled barn more than 100 years old. "The Farm" is near the Kansas City metro, a vibrant city with beautiful residential areas, wonderful shopping and dining and a diverse group of major employers. Kiplinger Magazine has rated Kansas City as one of the 50 Smart Places to Live.

In Tonganoxie, we employ individuals in our design, inventory management, service and call center, warehouse and order fulfillment, creative, finance, ecommerce and administrative areas and we provide support for customers throughout the world. Our New York City design office employs a staff dedicated to creating our unique collection of woven merchandise.

EUROPE: Our European operation began in 1995, serving Germany and other European countries in the years to follow. In 2023, we opened our Netherlands office in Amsterdam, which consists of a warehouse and order fulfilment operation that serves our primary European markets.

PERU: Our office in Lima, Peru works closely with our vendors in the development of our textiles and the production of our unique merchandise, as well as the assurance of its quality.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO DESIGN DEVELOPMENT, FULL-TIME - Tonganoxie, KS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities to design development and accurate product information:

  • Manage organization of seasonal development materials, fabric headers, yarn, and swatches. Create swatch binders. Log and ship to contract designers/vendors.
  • Record designs and swatch requests as the season evolves. Log designs submitted, received, and deadlines. Maintain updated design sheet files and binders.
  • Identify vendor codes, products, and outfits in each collection.
  • Collect product copy information for the design team and assist with detailed copy proofing.
  • Track and assist other departments in locating photo samples, benchmarks, swatches, and specs. Research to provide product information. Reply in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Build catalog coordinates list and document styling preferences for each collection. Coordinate with Amber Page and order processing team.
  • Assemble the product library at the end of each season. Be prepared to find products in the archive and maintain library organization.
  • Responsible for regular and seasonal closet cleanup, swapping collections, resetting photo sample, and benchmark bins. Designate samples for inventory, library, donation, sample sale.
  • Create national/international shipping documents for the design team.

 

Responsibilities to documentation, selection, and coordination of the collection:

  • Book models for in-house meetings. Track expenses and file invoices.
  • Cut & Sew meetings – Dress models at fast pace. Maintain product organization. Manage sample prep/steam, photography, and photo sharing. Photo manipulation to mock up correct colors and prints. Organize headers and raw materials. Shipping/receiving. Assist in creating the Cut & Sew Development Plan, accurately entering product information, carry-through styles, scanning print mockups, adding photos and pricing. Update as the season evolves. Assemble Cut & Sew collection binders.
  • Woven meetings – Dress models at fast pace. Maintain product organization. Manage sample prep/steam, photography, and photo sharing. Photo manipulation to mock up correct colors and prints. Organize headers and raw materials. Shipping/receiving. Assemble Woven collection binders.
  • Woolen collection edit – Dress models at fast pace. Maintain product organization. Manage sample prep/steam, photography, and photo sharing. Photo manipulation to mock up correct colors and prints. Organize headers and raw materials. Shipping/receiving. Assemble Woolen collection binders.
  • Coordinates Week – Hang and organize coordinate racks. Manage photography and printing, daily product reset/clean up. Participate in styling the collection. Assist with precise documentation of styling decisions and timely communication of shot-sheet updates with Inventory Management team.
  • Pre-Styleout – Organize collection samples. Reset room. Participate in accessory set-up. Build binders. Order and return shoes.
  • Styleout – Dress models at fast pace and maintain product organization. Assist stylist and focus on her comments, noting photo shoot requirements, shoes.
  • Catalog Design Meeting – Organize and present collection for catalog design team. Note styling/page changes.

 

Responsibilities to photo shoots and product representation as member of shoot team:

The following are shared responsibilities for the team, supporting our various photo shoots.

  • Photo samples – Track, receive, log, fit, label, and organize.
  • Carnet – Create and file a detailed and accurate carnet for foreign shoot travel.
  • Photoshoot Prep – Partner with team to proof shot sheets for accuracy. Precisely build photo sample lists from the carnet, label, and pull photo samples. Prepare shoot supplies.
  • Photo shoots – Travel, transport multiple suitcases, and work long hours at location photo shoots. Steam and organize samples on daily basis. Dress models at fast pace and anticipate stylist needs. Know your role as team support, communicate clearly and in a positive manner with shoot team. Represent design intention as a member of the design team. Record product comments or changes that occur at the shoot. Note styling/accessory changes and assist in updating shot sheet prior to Film Review.
  • Post Shoot- Unpack photo samples and organize for color control or file in vendor bins. Provide product comment/change notes to the Design and Tech teams prior to benchmark fittings. Store and replenish photo shoot supplies including suitcases, slips, and shoes. Keep shoe collection neatly organized.

 

Other:

  • Assist Design team as needed. Support other departments, including company initiatives and projects not outlined above.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS, BA, BFA, AAS degree in Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Design, Technical Apparel Design, or related degree
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and strong computer skills
  • Adobe Photoshop skills
  • Passport

 

Competencies:

  • Enthusiasm for fashion.
  • Document detailed information and proof for accuracy.
  • Communicate clearly, accurately, positively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain quiet, self-directed focus in a busy and distracting work environment. Able to prioritize responsibilities, set timelines and meet deadlines.
  • Flexible team member willing to assist and adapt as needed.
  • Ability to take direction and partner with others. Helpful, respectful, approachable, team oriented, building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Domestic and foreign travel is likely.
  • Willing to occasionally work beyond the 8-5 workday.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Regular lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Travel, managing multiple collection suitcases, 2-4 trips/year, often international.
  • Work an irregular schedule while traveling as photo shoot and travel requires.
