Annie Hurlbut first visited Peru as a 19-year-old anthropology student from Yale. In the Cuzco marketplace, she fell in love with the extraordinary handwoven textiles being sold there; it’s also where she first came across alpaca, a remarkable fiber that would captivate her for a lifetime.
Combining Annie’s anthropology background and her appreciation for Peruvian textiles and the artisans who make them, Annie and her mother, Biddy Hurlbut, founded Peruvian Connection in 1976. What began as a tiny mail-order business has evolved into a full-fledged company with retail stores across the U.S. Peruvian Connection also sells online and via catalog throughout the U.S., as well as in Germany and the U.K.
Exclusive Designs & Prints
Our designers double as fashion archeologists, uncovering historic motifs and patterns from around the world. These historic influences are reimagined into designs that marry global textile traditions with modern, wearable silhouettes.
Cottage Industries
Our knitwear collections are made in Peru by the same skilled artisans that we have employed for decades. Many of the designs we create are produced in female-owned cottage industries where wages are higher than the local average and where transportation, food and childcare are often provided.
At Peruvian Connection, our mission is to support Andean textile crafts by providing well-paying and consistent jobs to talented Peruvian artisans. What began as a focus on Peruvian-centric textile designs has evolved into a more global approach, with influences that expand to all corners of the world.
While our company has grown over the last 50 years, our original goal remains the same: to offer beautiful, original, artisan-crafted designs in luxurious Andean fibers.
